A. W. Finch - a European
A. W. Finch - en Europé
A. W. Finch was a Belgian artist - the first pointillist in Belgium. He studied with another Ostende-artist James Ensor and was one of the main exponents of Arts and Crafts-ideas in his homeland. He became interested in ceramics and in Paris in 1900 he won a medal for his ceramics at the Iris factory. His later fate reflects the political changes in the Grand Duchy and in the young republic of Finland. His family moves to England, and he remains alone in Helsinki where he works as a teacher at the Art Academy, and as an influential intermediator of European influences in the Finnish art life.
