The Children from Kallio is a 2 x 90 minutes documentary about children who all started their school on the same day in 1985, in the working class area of Kallio in Helsinki, Finland. Part one is a story of childhood. The children start their school, they become part of the system and learn the skills and methods that are needed in socialization. The film is basically a story about how a group consists of individuals, but it focuses on the fact that every individual creates his or her own world, and this development helps others to grow within the group. It is a story about environment as well. The area where these children live is one of the most poluted in Finland. The first part of the series was released in April, 1993. Part two will be ready towards the end of 1994.
