The director's stepmother, Yolanda, a Filipina woman married and living in Sweden, is stuck in a predicament common to many immigrants. She has taken on a menial job to earn money to send to her three sons back in the Philippines. When a grandson dies under suspicious circumstances, the family dynamics change unexpectedly.
